Fall home maintenance

Here is my short list of people I recommend to help with all the fall home maintenance tasks to prep your home for the winter months.

Thermostat

Many people turn off their thermostat during the summer, and now is the time to switch it back on. General recommendation for the temperature setting in the winter is 68 degrees when at home and 58 degrees when not at home or sleeping. Consider installing a WiFi thermostat that allows you to monitor your home’s temperature.

Heating system

Start with replacing dirty or clogged furnace filters. Then have a pro service your home heating system, proper maintenance will ensure functionality as well as longevity.  This is also a safety precaution, as malfunctioning systems increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Chimney

Have your chimney inspected and cleaned. Overtime, creosote will build up in your chimney which decreases efficiency as well as being a fire hazard. Chimney inspections typically range between $175 to $200.

Skis

Beat the crowds and get your skis tuned now, you’ll be ready for that first snow!
